Pre-Service Training Schedule

The time is coming soon! I got my most detailed email to date outlining what the next few months of my life are going to look like. Here's the schedule of events:

April 30th - Fly from Raleigh NC to Philadelphia PA, where I will participate in a 7 hour orientation.

May 1st - Get on a bus and head to NYC to fly out from JFK to T'Blisi Georgia.

First 3 days: I'll be in T'Blisi doing a crash course orientation, and getting more vaccines (oh boy).

Next 9 weeks: After lunch on Saturday, May 5, we will depart for Telavi, a small town in central Georgia which will serve as the hub community for Pre-Service Training. Trainees will live, and participate in the bulk of their training, in clusters of 5-6 trainees in small villages and towns surrounding Telavi.

Upon arrival in Telavi, I will meet your host families. This is a very exciting moment, as all host families are very eager to meet their new extended family members. Married couples will live together with a host family. This will be your first opportunity to experience the warmth and emotion of Georgian hospitality.

I also have an address for where I'll be staying for my Pre-Service Training if you want to check it out just click the link here

Send me mail to the address in the top box when you have a chance, but know that it takes a long time to get there, and that I will only be there for 10 weeks

The Packing List

The peace corps never actually sent me specifics for what to pack. The best I got from them was "plan for both warm and cold weather". Well what the heck does that mean? Do they mean warm like a summer in the south, or warm like las vegas? Do they mean cold like New York cold, or cold like Montana? So I went online and searched for "Peace Corps Georgia Packing list" and lo and behold there is an entire wiki set up for the service. As I looked through the list I realized that I would need to go shopping soon, one of my least favorite activities.

So if you're ever wondering what to take with you to georgia for a 2 year stay in a rural area, here's the best I can do for you without actually having been. it'll be fun to look back on this list later and see if it contained good information or not.

Launching the blog!

I'm starting a blog while I'm down here at our family beach house to try and keep people informed on my adventures while serving in the Republic of Georgia for the peace corps. With any luck, I'll have electricity and internet to keep people updated. Thanks for following, and more to come once things occur.

April 30th is the day when everything starts, stay tuned!

In the meantime, here's a pretty picture of the beach that I'm at (Holden Beach)
